God, Death, and Time

"To have to be is to have to die. Death is not somewhere in time, but time is, in its origin, zu sein [to be], that is to say, zu sterben [to die]. Every sickness is a miniature death. It is a cessation of normal living and is a step closer to the actual grave. 'To die... is not to reach the final point of one's being but to be close to the end at every moment of one's being...' (Levinas 43)"
